Does Medicare cover dialysis abroad?
Medicare does NOT cover dialysis outside the US (with a few narrow exceptions near US borders). International dialysis is typically $300–$900 per session, paid directly. Our research package identifies exact costs for your destination so there are no surprises.
How far in advance do I need to book?
8–12 weeks minimum for international destinations. Dialysis center reservations fill up — especially popular locations like Cartagena, Bangkok, and the Caribbean. The earlier you start, the more options you have.
Do I need to travel with my nephrologist's approval?
Yes — and we help you prepare. Every international trip requires a letter from your nephrologist, your last 3 months of labs, your dialysis prescription details, and confirmed chair availability. Our research package includes a documentation checklist.
What if something goes wrong at the destination?
Our plans always include emergency backup centers. The Full Coordination package includes an emergency contact protocol — you'll have local contacts, backup dialysis options, and a 24-hour emergency communication channel.
I'm on home dialysis. Can you still help?
Yes. Home dialysis travelers face different challenges — machine shipping, supplies, and utilities. We have experience coordinating home dialysis travel and can research compatibility for your specific machine and supplies at any destination.
Why does MAVTG charge for this when I can research it myself?
